Digital News: Risk Assessments & Locations

As part of the pre-production for the Digital News unit, we have to look for locations, and fill out risk assessments.

LOCATIONS

As our show is all about students, it means our stories are about students. Because of this, we are only featuring students on the show, which means for locations, we only need to film at The Maidstone Studios, were the course is based.

We spoke to Laura about booking rooms in the UCA base room to film in. We also submitted a request to film in rooms owned by the studio but we decided not to pursue those as they wanted to charge us. In the end we booked to use the lecture rooms in the base room for our interview, and for our news package/green screen shoot. For our live package, we currently have the lecture booked out, however we are looking into using the carpark outside the studios for this instead.

RISK ASSESSMENTS

Before we can book out any equipment, we had to fill out risk assessments for our locations. We recce'd our locations, which was easy as we learn in them. When then filled out the risk assessments and handed them over to Helen to be signed off. Once they were signed off we were able to book and collect equipment.

If we do change our location for the live package, we will of course need to complete a new risk assessment, and get it signed.
